WOOLTON is a suburb in South Liverpool. The Beatles made their first performance in Woolton, and used to practise three doors from the house in Halewood Drive where I grew up. The John Lennon Airport in Speke is less than three miles away in one direction, and Penny Lane is a similar distance in the opposite direction. Woolton is also home to Strawberry Field (a children's home) made famous in the Beatles' song of the same name. A connection three generations back links my family to John Lennon's so, technically, we were related.

I am God.
(Psalm 46: 10)
On 16th July 2006, armed with my old photograph album and camera, I stood on the same spots that I stood on back in the 1970's when the whole world was black and white, and took these colour pictures. Study the details closely.
1. Andy Carpenter on my "Super deluxe" fold-up bike at the junction of Halewood Drive/Hunts Cross Avenue on 12th February 1977
2. MPTE Bristol VR 2077 passes Malton Road on Hunts Cross Avenue in July 1978.
3. Playing go-karts on Hunts Cross Avenue, near Halewood Drive on 21st February 1977.
In picture 1 the view of St Peter's Church tower is now lost behind the Priorsfield Road development.
In picture 2 the street light columns on Hunts Cross Avenue have been replaced.
In picture 3 notice how much thicker the tree trunk is, and in picture 4 count the chimney stacks.
Can you spot any more?
The three scenes below were taken on 2nd October 1977. The 26th Liverpool Boys' Brigade and 18th Liverpool Girls' Brigade (based at St James' Methodist Church), held their monthly Church parade via Allerton Road, Quarry Street South and High Street. If you spot yourself in these pictures, please CONTACT ME. Some faces that spring to mind are Captain H I Hughes (sadly no longer with us), Ron Swindells, his son Rob Swindells, Roy Hewitt (mace-bearer), Beryl Swindells, Clarry Hewitt, Debbie Massey and, in picture 5 on the sidewalk, Eileen Curphey with her (then) five-year-old son John.
